Police, Border Guards clash in North Darfur capital

Violent clashes between policemen and Border Guards in El Fasher, North Darfur, led to a number of dead and wounded on Tuesday. Elements of the Border Guards attempted to break into the stores of the Agricultural Bank in El Fasher at about 12am today (Tuesday), witnesses told Radio Dabanga. “The police responded immediately and chased them out of the city until they reached their base in the area of El Bursa. There, other Border Guards troops opened fire on the police, which led to a number of dead and wounded on both sides, in addition to a number of citizens.” Schools, government institutions, and shops shut their doors. Citizens fled to their homes. The Governor of North Darfur State, Osman Kibir, said that one policeman and one militiaman were killed, and two civilians injured. A number of militiamen were arrested.
