Organisations suspend aid in South Darfur’s El Salam camp

The humanitarian organisations working at El Salam camp for the displaced, south of Nyala, South Darfur, have suspended their activities because of the “rampant insecurity”. The residents of El Salam camp appealed to the World Food Programme to expedite the distribution of food rations for January which have reached the camp since 3 January, but have not been distributed to the people so far because of the security conditions. Mahjoub Adam Tabaldiya, one of the sheikhs of the camp told Radio Dabanga that the camp population is living in conditions that can be described as “tragic”, because of the shortage of food, drinking water, health care, and medicines. “The aid organisations that were working at the camp have stopped their activities as a result of the rampant insecurity. Therefore all health centres in the camp are closed.” Tabaldiya appealed to the aid organisations to immediately resume their work, and to “the UN and all humanitarian organisations” to stand by the displaced and support them.
