Opposition leader: ‘political assassinations will continue’

Ali Mahmoud Hassanein, head of the Broad National Front said that the government’s policy of political assassination was hardly surprising. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, Hassanein said since the National Congress came to power by coup in 1989, it has arrested political opponents, torturing and murdering them in prison and specially designed chambers called ‘ghost houses’. He said the world has also witnessed the killing of hundreds of thousands of people in Darfur and now in Manasir, Blue Nile and South Kordofan. The killing of Khalil Ibrahim, continued Hassanein is an extension of the same policy. He called the death of the late leader a great misfortune as he was a dedicated leader of a large movement fighting the system since 2003. Hassanein said that some people believe the political assassination of the JEM leader was the first of its kind. He said that it was not the first and would not be the last.
