Nyala University suspends classes and bans student activities

The council of deans of Nyala University in South Darfur has announced its decision to suspend classes in all faculties for the period of one week, starting Sunday November 25, Radio Dabanga has learned. The council announced its decision to suspend all classes, except for the exam preparatory classes.Following a clash on Thursday between Islamist students and students supporting Sudan’s Liberation Movement led by Minni Minawi (SLM-MM), a number of student activities have been banned indefinitely. Sources added to Radio Dabanga the conflict at the university escalated when Islamist students reportedly denied SLM-MM affiliated students the right to a discussion, claiming that ‘the SLM-MM has no presence in Sudan after the separation of the South’.
