A Sudanese opposition figure was arrested today in Khartoum. Faroug Abu Issa was arrested in the Al Riyadh neighborhood of Khartoum. He was the spokesman for the Juba Alliance, a loose coalition of northern opposition parties. Last month just days after the Sudanese nationwide election ended, Abu Issa called the election “false from A to Z.”
Update 21 May 2010: Faroug Abu Issa was released after what he says was a period of three hours. He told the Sudan Tribune website after his release that security agents interrogated him mainly about the opposition activities and their call to release Hassan Al-Turabi, leader of the Popular Congress.
