The area of Shangil Tobaya in Tawila locality, North Darfur, witnessed a series of serious abuses and assaults on villagers and displaced during the past few days.

“Shangil Tobaya and the surrounding villages are besieged by government-backed militiamen and militant herders,” a camp sheikh told Radio Dabanga on Monday.

“Last week Sheikh Ismail Taha was abducted. They also severely beat and whipped Sheikh Mohamed Adam, Adam Ismail Abdelrahman, and two others. In the area of Tangara they fired at two commercial vehicles,” he said.

“The people do not dare to leave the camps any more to fetch water or collect firewood.”
