North Darfur displaced unable to pay ‘national number’ fees

The displaced of Abu Shouk camp in El Fasher locality, North Darfur, complain about the imposition of fees for a national number. A resident of the camp told Radio Dabanga that the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) informed them that they would obtain the national number for free. “Yet, the civil registry administration that began its work in the camp last Wednesday, told us on Friday that we have to pay SDG30 ($5).” “The Abu Shouk residents cannot afford such an amount,” she said. “They refrained from applying for the number, and demanded from the DRA to intervene, monitor the process, and guarantee that we can obtain a national number for free.” File photo: A displaced woman at Abu Shouk camp, March 2013 (blogs.lt.vt.edu)
