Armed herdsmen shot and killed a displaced couple as they tried to defend their lands in North Darfur on Friday.

Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that four herdsmen riding camels drove their livestock onto the farm of Sayed Juma Adam and Maryam Adam Nazhan, east of Sortony camp the displaced at Kabkabiya.

When the couple resisted and tried to prevent the livestock from tramping and grazing on their farm, the men opened fire and killed them instantly.

Sheikh kidnapped

In a separate incident on Friday, Sheikh Ahmed Ismail Abdullah was kidnapped from his home near Kabkabiya.

A witness told Radio Dabanga that five government militiamen driving a Land Cruiser stormed the house of Sheikh Ahmed and took him at gunpoint to an unknown destination.

The caller said the incident has been reported to the Kabkabiya police.
