Motorcycles have been banned from El Fasher in North Darfur State during the daytime, in an attempt to curb the crimes in the capital city.

The decision that was announced by Commissioner of the locality, El Tijani Abdallah Saleh at the weekend, went into effect yesterday. It bans the movement of motorcycles in the city between 7 am and 7 pm.

Seized motorcycles are not allowed to be released until the state's security committee finds that the owner is not guilty of committing a crime. According to the Commissioner, motorcycles are being used in many of the crimes committed in the city. The ban includes all private and government-owned motorcycles.

Last month, authorities in El Fasher announced that the security campaign that began eight months ago is working well. Heightened security measures resulted in the seizure of more than 150 unregistered motorcycles.
