The states of North Darfur and Red Sea are facing severe food shortage with less than five (5) per cent food security in the regions, a report released by the health ministry said on Wednesday.The report also pointed out high mortality rates among children and mothers and malnutrition in a press conference in Khartoum. The deputy minister of health, who presided over the press conference, pointed to the need for an intervention by the central government to rescue the states from the situation.

The report added that clean water and sanitation standards were the poorest in West Darfur and Blue Nile.
