NCP announces ‘caretaker government’ for South Darfur

The ruling National Congress Party (NCP) in South Darfur state announced that a “caretaker government” will be established after the general elections of April this year.

The new South Darfur state government will consist of 12 ministers. Four of them will be non-South Darfuris, selected by the central government. 13 commissioners will be appointed for the South Darfur state localities, and the presidential affairs department.

The decision to appoint ministers from outside the state came after the South Darfur state authorities were accused of racism and tribalism.

The state’s NCP Leadership Office officially announced on Thursday that Yousef Abdallah Hussein will be appointed minister of Finance and Investment, El Tayeb Omar Abureida will head the Planning and Health Ministry, Mohamed El Tom El Shami, the Agriculture and Livestock Ministry, and Omar Mohamed Bashir will become the new Minister of Education.

El Sunni Mohamed Imam, will be the new commissioner of Nyala municipality. Salah Osman has been selected for the post of Commissioner of Katila locality, and Mohamed Abdelrahman Gadem as Commissioner of Gireida locality. The names for the 10 other commissioner posts will be announced at a later date.
