Leaders of the Ziyoud and Awlad Imran signed the definite text of a reconciliation accord in the East Darfur capital of Ed Daein on 15 February.

The Governors of East Darfur and West Kordofan, and the Rizeigat chairman of the Mediation Committee attended the signing ceremony.

Chief mediator Mahmoud Musa Madibo praised the members of the two clan delegations for reaching the peaceful coexistence agreement. He said that they will exert their utmost efforts to implement the recommendations on the ground.

Nearly 133 people were killed and hundreds injured in clashes between the two clans of the Misseriya El Humr tribe after a dispute over the ownership of land near to oil fields in West Kordofan in November 2014. In July that year, 150 tribesmen of both sides were killed and more than 100 injured, again because of a dispute over land.

The reconciliation committee decided that the ‘blood money’ for one victim will be SDG30,000 (nearly $5,000) to be paid in four instalments. The compensation to be paid for the treatment of the wounded will be carried out after the completion of the medical reports.

The committee also stipulated a fine of SDG50,000 ($8,160) and imprisonment for one year on “whoever stirs conflict again by talking about what happened”.
