In the Red Sea state, people complain about the imposition of fees for basic school examinations. “The Ministry of Education imposed amounts of SDG65 ($11) for regular students and pupils, and SDG75 ($12.50) for pupils and adult students for the state basic school exams,” a parent reported to Dabanga from Port Sudan.

“Many of us cannot afford to pay such high amounts,” he explained. “Teachers and parents now have demanded the state authorities to intervene, to enable the students to leave school with a diploma.”
