Mine collapses: 82 dead in North Darfur

Thirty-five of the killed miners have been recovered since a well collapsed three days ago, while others remain under the rubble.

At least 82 mine workers were killed in Jebel 'Amer in El Sareif Beni Hussein locality, North Darfur, on Tuesday, when a tunnel collapsed in one of the wells.

A relative of one of the victims told Radio Dabanga that the bodies of 35 of the 82 miners have been recovered. They had registered their names before going down the excavation pit. 47 are reportedly still under the rubble.

The relative said that they have not yet been able to identify the recovered bodies.

In April 2013, a mine in Jebel 'Amer also collapsed. More than 60 miners were killed.
