Militiamen rob family, hijack lorries in South Darfur

In two separate incidents in South Darfur on Saturday, people were attacked and robbed by militiamen. In Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, unidentified gunmen shot at the family of the owner of a travel bus company on Saturday evening, according to an eyewitness. The daughter of the company owner, known as Adam Dugush, was injured. The attack occurred at about 7pm when the family was riding home in a rickshaw, returning from a visit to relatives in the neighbourhood in Hay Dereij. The witness added that the gunmen robbed Dugush of his money and mobile telephone. On Saturday morning, militiamen hijacked two lorries, belonging to Abersi company, in the area of Tor, north of Kass. The lorries were part of a convoy of ten vehicles en route from El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, to Nyala. One of the passengers reported to Radio Dabanga that “government-backed militiamen” on camels and horses, and others in two Land Cruisers mounted with machine guns on Saturday at about 11am fired at the convoy. A number of passengers of two lorries and one of the lorry drivers, Adam Omar Jurji, were injured. The militiamen took the two lorries, with all the loaded goods, to an unknown destination.
