A group of militiamen occupied El Fasher Teaching Hospital on Sunday.

“The assailants beat any staff member they saw,” a medic told Radio Dabanga from the North Darfur state capital, explaining that the attack came against the backdrop of the hijack of a car earlier this morning.

“After the theft of a car in downtown El Fasher, security forces at the town gates were alerted. In a fire fight at one of the gates, one militiaman was killed, and another wounded. The injured man was taken to the Teaching Hospital, accompanied by his fellows, who insisted that the doctors leave their work and treat their colleague first.

“They then started beating the medical staff and the guards severely, creating a huge panic. We all fled, leaving behind the militiamen and the patients.”
