Militiamen gun-down two in Kutum, North Darfur

Two people were reportedly shot dead in two separate incidents in the town of Kutum in North Darfur on Sunday. A relative of one of the victims told Radio Dabanga that militiamen in a Land Cruiser on 17 November at about 5pm opened fire at pharmacist Ahmed Abu Raseen, also known as “the European”, while he was standing in front of his pharmacy at Kutum market. He died instantly. The militiamen fled immediately. The source added that the attack took place “a few meters from an army post”. Later that day, at about 12pm, unidentified gunmen opened fire on soldier Mohamed Abu Kaneesh, who was on his way home after his work. He was killed on the spot. The relative noted that the abuses and assaults by gunmen on civilians in and around Kutum have become “very regular” and “very violent”. He called on the authorities to intervene and put an end to these assaults as soon as possible. File photo
