Militiamen gang-rape ten in Central Darfur

Ten women, four of them minors, were gang-raped by militiamen on Sunday in Wadi Bari, northeast of Abata in Central Darfur, the coordinator of the Central Darfur camps reported to Radio Dabanga. “More than 20 government-backed militiamen, some of them in military uniforms, others in civilian clothes assaulted ten women who were collecting firewood and picking jujube fruits in Wadi Bari, north of Mileisa village, on Sunday morning,” the coordinator said. The militiamen beat and whipped the women before they alternately raped them from 10am until 7pm. The coordinator noted that there were four minors among the women, their ages ranging from 12 to 15 years. “The six other women are between 18 to 40 years old.” A group of people brought the victims “who were in a very bad psychological condition” home on donkeys and carts. The incident was reported to Unamid and human rights organisations.
