Medics in Sudan’s Wad Madani on strike

Medical doctors in Wad Madani embarked on an open-ended strike on Friday.
The doctors of the Wad Madani Emergency Hospital and the El Gezira Centre for Injuries, and Orthopaedic and General Surgery, decided to down tools for an indefinite period of time on Friday, after two of them were beaten-up that day.
“All doctors joined the strike,” a medic told Radio Dabanga from Wad Madani, the capital of El Gezira. “We will make an exception for serious traffic accidents and other emergency cases.”
He said that a group of policemen entered the Emergency Hospital and insulted and beat two ‘specialists in training’ on Friday. “We will return to our work only when our safety is fully guaranteed.”
