Many flee Abata after army, rebels clash in Central Darfur

The Zalingei camps in Central Darfur are witnessing a wave of newly displaced, as a result of the violent clashes between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Sudan Revolutionary Front in the area of Abata on Friday. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, the coordinator of the Central Darfur camps for the displaced reported that on Monday morning 17 families from Abata sought refuge in the Hamidiya camp, Zalingei locality. The coordinator noted that the “exodus from Abata” was prompted by the army-rebel clashes, in addition to the deterioration of the security situation in the region. “Government-backed militiamen and followers of the National Congress Party started to harass and assault the citizens after the clashes,” he explained.
