A man admitted to Radio Darfur/Dabanga that he took part in the attack on Hamadiya Camp in Zalingei last Friday night. He carried out the attack along with 13 other individuals, he said, with the intention of eliminating seven targets in the camp. The perpetrator, Mukashfi Mohammed Saleh, stated that the attackers had wanted the seven targeted men to face trial. The camp leaders refused to hand themselves over to authorities. Mukashfi told Radio Dabanga that they carried out the attack in reprisal for what happened to them in the past within the camp — a reference to extra-judicial murders committed allegedly by camp leaders in late July.

Mukashfi also said that they informed UNAMID of the subject and of their demands. Three of the nine victims of the attack on Friday were camp leaders who were wanted for arrest by the attackers.
