Lower ransom, but time is short for abducted South Darfuri

The pro-government militiamen who kidnapped six of the displaced people living in El Salam camp last week have agreed to a ransom of SDG 250,000 ($43,554) instead of the earlier demand of SDG 300,000 ($52,264) for the release of the abductees. Negotiations continued for three consecutive days, sheikh Mahjoub Adam Tabaldiya of El Salam cam reported to Radio Dabanga. “The displaced people have paid SDG 138,000 ($24,042) to the kidnappers on Friday, whom insisted they will pay the full amount. They have been given three days to raise the money, or the six abductees will be killed.” Mohamed Abdallah Saleh (26 years), Isaac Adam Abdel Karim (50 years), El Amin Abdallah Hamad (42 years), Isaac Adam Abakar (50 years), Ahmed Bakhit Abakar (45 years), and Idris Hamad Muala (65 years) were kidnapped by pro-government militiamen on Saturday, together with four other displaced people from El Salam on Saturday. These four were freed later, but the militiamen kept six persons, and demanded a ransom of SDG 50,000 ($8,700) for each of them. They also demanded to be allowed inside the camp with their weapons and mask. File photo: Militiaman in Darfur (unknown) Related: Ten abducted in South Darfur (1 June 2014)
