Lorry driver killed in South Darfur armed robbery

A lorry driver was killed and two others were wounded in an armed robbery in South Darfur on Wednesday. A witness told Radio Dabanga that gunmen opened fire on the lorry while it was returning from Kidnir, where the passengers had gone to do shopping, to Mershing. The driver was killed instantly.

A lorry driver was killed and two others were wounded in an armed robbery on the Kidnir-Mershing road in South Darfur on Wednesday.

A witness told Radio Dabanga that gunmen opened fire on the lorry while it was returning from Kidnir, where the passengers had gone to do shopping, to Mershing. The driver was killed instantly.

He said the robbers seized SDG 350,000 in cash, as well as telephones and property from the passengers. He said this is the fifth vehicle to be subjected to an armed robbery within two weeks.

El Gedaref

Yesterday, the main road of El Faw locality in El Gedaref was closed following a traffic accident involving a lorry with trailer, a lorry and a tractor. The closed road meant that traffic to the states of El Gezira, El Gedaref, Kassala and Red Sea was impossible. Hundreds of passengers and trucks were stranded in the open, amid complete absence of the authorities.
