Liberation and Justice Movement backs Heidelberg Document

The Liberation and Justice Movement declared its adherence to the contents of the Heidelberg Document on resolving the Darfur crisis, especially the proposal to combine the three states of Darfur into one administrative territory, and to create ways to allow displaced persons to return to their homes and compensate them individually and collectively, as well as to expel the new settlers who came from neighboring countries. Abdullah Mursal, the rebel movement’s official spokesman, said on behalf of the movement that the government’s rejection of the document will result in a return to war between the parties, unless the government meet the demands of the people of Darfur. The government delegation at the Doha negotiations had refused to consider the Heidelberg Document and even turned away a delegation of civil society activists who went to Doha to present the document to the negotiators for consideration.
