The Darfur Bar Association (DBA) has condemned the detention of nine Darfuri university students from the Sheigi Karo boarding house in El Abbasiya in Omdurman on Tuesday.

The lawyers of the DBA said in a statement that the students were violently taken to offices of the Sudanese security service (NISS) in Omdurman and from there, to an unknown destination.

The DBA said that it would address the National Human Rights Commission, the Sudanese attorney-general, the Ministry of Justice, and the African Commission on Human Rights on repeated actions targeting Darfuri students without objective or legal grounds.

The lawyers also demand the immediate release of the detained students and correcting their lost rights.

On Tuesday evening, an armed force in three vehicles stormed the student dormitory in El Abbasiya district. Most of the students in the dormitory originate from Darfur. The armed force arrested nine of them and took them to an unknown destination.

During a security raid on a student house in Khartoum North on January 4, a student was killed. The DBA submitted a request to the Sudanese attorney-general to initiate the necessary procedures for an investigation into his death.
