Today on the 8th of March, International Women’s Day, Radio Dabanga launches its newest radio programme especially for women. The programme, called Al-Jubraka, which means ‘the vegetable garden’, is a women’s radio magazine made by women and produced especially for women.

The programme will be broadcast every Tuesday at 19.30 in Darfur. It focuses on challenges of women in IDP camps in Sudan and refugee camps in Chad. In addition to carrying the latest updates about women and their challenges, the programme will also cover issues that Darfuri women themselves want to raise. The name was not chosen coincidentally — rather, the ‘vegetable garden’ in Darfur is considered a place specially reserved for women, making it their own space for dialogue and introspection.

The first programme, which will be broadcasted later today, pays attention to the following issues: Education for women in the ccamps; International Women’s Day; health advice for women in Darfur; successful women in Darfur; the role of the grandmother in Darfuri culture; and the programme ends with the artist of the week: Mubarak Mansuri.
