Large area on fire due to rebels, Sudan army battle

As a result of violent clashes between the Sudanese army (SAF) and two rebel groups in North Darfur 150 acres of land are reportedly on fire. The flames killed 45 livestock; no human casualties have yet been accounted for. On Monday, the rebel groups Sudan Liberation Army of Abdel Wahid (SLA-AW) and Sudan Liberation Movement for Justice (SLMJ of Karbino) claimed to have killed 18 SAF soldiers in a joint offensive. The rebels further claimed to have seized the Dobbo El Madrasa garrison in East Jebel Marra. Although Radio Dabanga was not able to verify the information with the Sudanese army, local witnesses support the rebels’ allegations. Local witnesses on Tuesday observed an “intense movement of airplanes flying over the area”, but according to them no bombs have been dropped yet.
