Kidnapped South Darfur mother, daughter released

A mother and daughter kidnapped by gunmen on Wednesday from El Salam neighbourhood in Nyala, capital of South Darfur, have been released unharmed.

Hawa Dora and her daughter Magda Adam Hussein were seized from their home by a group of militiamen driving a Land Cruiser that was mounted with a Dushka machinegun, a listener reported.

He told Radio Dabanga that the men seized the mother and daughter, and took them to an unknown destination.

The kidnappers called family members and demanded a ransom of SDG20,000 ($3,280) for the release of the mother and daughter. The family paid SDG5,000 ($820) and promised to pay the remainder later.

On this condition, the kidnappers released the two on Wednesday evening, at El Malaja vegetable market in Nyala. According to the listener, the women were not harmed during.
