JEM: Our proposal received positive response

Opposition group says that NCP is the biggest obstacle in the path towards finding a peaceful solution in SudanThe Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) considered the recently concluded Darfur workshop in Washington to be a success, a representative of the group told Radio Dabanga on Friday.“The workshop was a platform to present a roadmap to fully resolve the crisis in Darfur and the rest of Sudan in a comprehensive, impartial manner,” Ahmed Hussein Adam, advisor to the president of JEM told Radio Dabanga in an interview.The workshop in Washington was held by the United States administration at the Institute of Peace in Washington. Opposition groups such as Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), Sudan Liberation Army-Minni Minnawi (SLA-MM) and JEM attended the workshop along with government allies Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM).“The proposal presented by the JEM was met with massive positive response from all parties in the workshop. The JEM made it clear at the workshop that the fault lies at the centre and there needs to be restructuring in order to change things. The National Congress Party (NCP) is the biggest obstacle in the process,” Ahmed Hussein Adam said.He added that the NCP was now refusing to adhere to peaceful solutions pointing at its absence from the Washington workshop where various parties were at the negotiating table.
