JEM claims to defeat attack in West Darfur

The Justice and Equality Movement claims having repelled a government offensive on Tuesday at their positions in Heleilat near Jebel Moon. A military spokesman for the movement said that the attack was carried out by a government force coming from Kulbus. JEM inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers and forced them to flee to Kulbus, according to the rebel official. This week JEM pulled out of the Doha peace negotiations with the government. Radio Dabanga was unable to reach the official military spokesman for comment. JEM said yesterday also that government Antonov and MiG airplanes carried out large-scale bombardment in areas of North and West Darfur. JEM Secretary of Administration and Management Abubakr Hamid Nour told Radio Dabanga that the bombing occurred in North Darfur State in areas east of Jebel Marra and south and east of El Fasher, including Tabet, Tarni, and Korma. The bombing in West Darfur State occurred in Abu Gomra to the west of Saraf Umra, Gergi Gergi, Bir Mina, Gargeera, Bir Sabeeba and the Jebel Moon area.
