Initiatives for peaceful coexistence between Darfur tribes
Leaders of the Berti and Rizeigat tribes in North Darfur agreed on peaceful coexistence in Mellit on Friday. In East and South Darfur, young Rizeigat and Habania tribesmen established a “joint youth forum” to promote peaceful coexistence.
The warring parties pledged to end all differences and tensions, and reject all forms of intolerance between members of the tribes. Berti King Yasir Hussein Ahamdai and Rizeigat Chief Mohamedein El Dud Mahdi signed the peace document.
Dalil Ibrahim Hamed, head of the Rizeigat and Habania youth forum in East and South Darfur, informed Radio Dabanga from the East Darfur capital of Ed Daein on Friday that the forum members are committed to “resort to the voice of reason and the promotion of a culture of peace” in the region.
Hamed said that the forum aims to promote peaceful coexistence in all localities of both states. He called on the state governments and members of the native administration to expedite the payment of blood money for victims of tribal clashes, “to calm down the tribesmen”.
