IDPs in Zalingei appeal to international community to protect them

Displaced people of the camps around Zalingei appealed the international community to intervene to protect them and to stop the genocide to which they are exposed by the government, said the coordinator of IDP camps around Zalingei. He said that the National Congress planned to implement genocide after Bashir’s comments to hand over leaders of displaced persons to the governmental authorities for prosecution. The camp leader appealed to Darfuris and members of the armed forces to disobey the instructions issued by the government to implement the plans against the IDPs, and he urged the international community to shoulder their responsibilities towards them in full. Last week fighting in Hamadiya Camp among residents there resulted in the deaths of three people, according to the United Nations Mission in Darfur, although reports initially received by Radio Dabanga had put the casualty figure at two.
