Hospitals in North Darfur crowded, equipment outdated: Health minister

The minister of Health and Deputy Governor of North Darfur state, Abu Abbas Abdallah Tayeb Jiddo has acknowledged that the hospitals and health centres in the state are urgently in need of new technical equipments. Most of the equipment is very old and worn-out, Jiddo said in a press conference in El Fasher on Sunday. Many patients turn to the El Fasher Educational Hospital because of its low costs and because there are more doctors. In particular the Paediatric Department is crowded with patients on a daily basis. Yet the hospital is short of free medicines for the poorest patients. The minister added that the educational hospital is also in dire need of a diagnostic laboratory. File photo: El Fasher hospital (Albert González Farran/Unamid)
