At least two farmers were killed and ten others injured by herders in North and South Darfur today.

“A group of militant Abbala herders drove their camels and cows onto farms in the area of Shagara, west of the North Darfur capital El Fasher this morning,” a villager reported to Radio Dabanga from Shagara.

“When the farmers confronted the herders, they opened fire. One farmer was fatally hit. Ten others were seriously injured and had to be taken to El Fasher for treatment.”

The witness said that the authorities sent an army force from El Fasher to contain the situation.

In South Darfur, herdsmen shot and killed farmer Ibrahim Mohamed this afternoon when he attempted to prevent herdsmen from driving their livestock onto his farm.

A relative of the victim told Radio Dabanga that the incident took place in the area of Umbayoum, ten kilometres east of Gireida.
