Herders murder farmer in Central Darfur’s Nierteti

A displaced farmer was killed in the agricultural area of Ali El Zubeir, Nierteti locality, Central Darfur, today. “Ibrahim Hamed Ahmed was shot dead by militant herders on his farmland in the area of Ali El Zubeir, east of Nierteti town, on Wednesday morning,” a relative of the victim told Radio Dabanga.   “The herders threatened to kill any farmer who would cultivate parts of the area, saying that the area is meant for grazing.” He added that the people of Nierteti locality recently handed a memorandum to the commander of the military garrison of Nierteti and the commissioner of Nierteti locality, complaining about the deterioration of the security situation, the killing and raping of citizens, and the destruction of more than 600 farmlands by herders and their livestock in the area of Ali El Zubeir. “The people hold the commander of the military garrison responsible for the violence against the citizens in the area.” File photo: Darfuri farmers in a sorghum field Related: Five women gang-raped in Central Darfur’s Nierteti (28 August 2014)
