Armed herders killed three people in East Jebel Marra on Sunday. Four people were wounded.

A brother of one of the deceased said that the victims were on their way from Gabas to Katur, which is west of Tabit in North Darfur. They came under the attack by militant herders two kilometres from the Sudanese military base in Katur.

“They chased them and shot them,” the brother told Radio Dabanga.

A number of people near the military base brought the wounded and the dead to the base, where the four injured received medical treatment.

Last Sunday fighting broke out between armed shepherds and rebel fighters in Tawila locality. Groups of herders had gathered near Katur after an attack on a nomads’ settlement in the vicinity of Tawila. During the attack last Wednesday, reportedly led by rebel combatants, three people were killed and about 1,000 camels and cows were stolen.
