Militant herders abducted a man in South Darfur’s East Jebel Marra locality on Sunday.

A resident of Fanga in East Jebel Marra reported to Radio Dabanga that a large group of herdsmen surrounded the village on Sunday.

“The janjaweed then stormed Fanga, firing in the air, which caused a lot of panic among the people. They seized Mohamed Adam, an elderly man, and took him with them toward El Malam.”

Adam is currently held hostage by the herders. “They said that they will release him if we return 15 heads of sheep that were stolen by unknown gunmen east of Falluja on Friday.”

The source said that the villagers have requested help from the local authorities.
