Herders, farmers clash over land in East Darfur’s Yassin locality

Five people were killed and seven others injured in tribal clashes in Seleia, Yassin locality, on Wednesday.

After a dispute over farmlands between herders of the Arab Khozam tribe and farmers of the African Birgid tribe, a gunfight erupted, a listener told Radio Dabanga from Seleia.

 Four tribesmen were killed and seven others sustained bullet wounds. They were transferred to hospitals in Yassin and Asalaya. The police tried to intervene, whereby a policeman was killed.

 The deputy governor of East Darfur, Ali El Taher Sharef, told reporters in Ed Daein, capital of East Darfur, that military troops were sent to Seleia, to separate the militants and prevent new clashes.
