Heist nets West Kordofan railway payroll

Unidentified gunmen raided the office of the Sudanese Railways Corporation in Babanusa in West Kordofan on Wednesday evening, and made off with SDG 150,000 ($23,000) in cash, destined for the salaries of the railway personnel.

A witness told Radio Dabanga that three gunmen gained access to the railway office at about 9 pm. The severely beat the paymaster, Najmuddin Abdullah, and then tied him up and fled with the cash.

Babanusa is an important junction on the line from Nyala to Khartoum via El Obeid. It is also an essential link on the line to Wau in South Sudan.
