Heavy rainfall east Chad causes serious damage to Camp Treijm

Thursday’s heavy rainfall at Camp Treijm for Darfuri refugees in eastern Chad, caused significant losses and serious damages to the refugees’ homes and the camp’s main well. A refugee told Radio Dabanga that last Wednesday and Thursday’s rainfall led to the collapse of more than 120 houses. It also caused a flood that destroyed the main well which supplies the camp with drinking water.He urged humanitarian organizations to speed up addressing the water problem. He pointed out that the refugees now drink water from the valley which could lead to many diseases. He also called upon the humanitarian organizations to provide plastic sheets for the refugees to protect themselves from the rain.
