The health centre at the Donki Abyad camp for the displaced in Gireida locality, South Darfur, will be closed soon.

Representatives of the international aid organisation running the centre informed the camp elders about the closure in a meeting last Sunday afternoon.

They explained to the camp sheikhs that the Qatari donor had decided to direct its funds to other health centres in the vicinity, because the camp residents would have benefited from the voluntary return programme, and returned to their areas of origin.

The head of the government Humanitarian Aid Commission of Gireida, Mohamed Abdu, decided on the closure, one of the camp elders told Radio Dabanga.

In response, the camp sheikhs submitted a memorandum to the aid organisation in which they call on the donor to visit to the camp, and see that the displaced who still living there are in need of the health centre’s services. They stressed that no camp residents returned to their place of origin.
