Gunmen shoot two, scare camp residents in North Darfur

Two members of a militia killed two men in Kassab camp for the displaced in Kutum locality, North Darfur on Monday evening. An activist in Kassab camp told Radio Dabanga that two government-backed militia members riding on camels opened fire on a shop at about 6pm on Monday. The blind Abdallah Adam was present inside the shop, located in block A of the camp. His uncle Mohamed Ali Nazhan hurried to the scene for his rescue. The militiamen shot him as well, killing both Adam and Nazhan. The gunmen then looted Adam’s shop, the activist said, and escaped from the Kassab camp while firing shots in the air and at a football match in one of the playgrounds nearby. The players and the public fled to the nearby site of the Sudanese army. Army forces “exchanged fire with the gunmen”, the activist reported, “but did not manage to arrest them.” File photo: Unamid night patrols in Kassab camp (Albert González Farran/Unamid) Related: North Darfur camp residents assaulted (22 December 2013)
