Gunmen rape 15 year old girl

Two gunmen, said to belong to a pro-government militia, raped a 15 year old displaced girl from Hamidiya camp, on Saturday September 22 in the area of Gondarsi, north of Zalingei in Central Darfur. A Zalingei camp coordinator told Radio Dabanga that four displaced women were collecting firewood as they ran into two gunmen who threatened them with weapons. Three of the women managed to escape and return to the camp, while the 15 year old girl was captured by the gunmen. The girl was taken to Zalingei hospital for treatment after she was released. The camp coordinator said they informed the police, Unamid and Unhcr about the incident. He added that the police refused to register the incident’s report. He appealed to Unamid to increase patrols around the camp to ensure the safety of the displaced people, and women and children in particular.
