Gunmen kill two, injure one in Kass, South Darfur

Two residents of Kass, South Darfur, were shot dead, and one was injured by gunmen on Sunday. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a resident of El Salam district in Kass said that three gunmen on motorcycles stopped Suleiman El Faki when he was returning home from the district mosque after evening prayers. “They told El Faki to mount one of their motorcycles, but he refused. During the ensuing discussion, El Faki’s son, Ishag Suleiman came to help his father. The gunmen opened fire at the son, and he died on the spot. El Faki’s daughter was injured when they shot her too. Their neighbour, El Rashid Omar, who had heard the shooting, came to their rescue. He was hit by bullets in his head, and was transferred to Kass hospital, where he died.” On Tuesday, relatives of the deceased together with other angry citizens staged a demonstration in front of the police station of Kass, in protest against the deteriorating security situation in the town. “The police fired into the air, which frightened the peaceful demonstrators,” the source added.
