Gunmen kill elderly woman in North Darfur

A 70-year-old woman was killed inside a farm in Umm Laota, North Darfur, as a result of random shots fired by members of the Sudanese Central Reserve Forces and pro-government militias, witnesses told Radio Dabanga on Tuesday, 27 November. According to testimonies, the armed groups were driving seven vehicles and were coming from Kutum. Upon their arrival in Umm Laota on Tuesday morning, they began shooting indiscriminately towards the villages, located about four kilometers north of Tabet, sources recounted. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga the militias were ‘terrorizing and looting’ the communities, provoking ‘terror and fear’ among local residents. They added that besides killing Hawah Yahia, the armed groups also killed hoses and donkeys. Local sources explained that as a result of the attacks, they are prevented from going to their farms, to water wells and to fetch firewood. Residents from the villages of Tabarik, Karfalah, Koto, Dali Umm Tretir, Hashaba, Shroufa, Tabeldiya Dalma, Kunjara, Kouchna, Watrodona, Goz Dor and Timo are now living in fear as they do not know what will happen, a source told Radio Dabanga.Radio Dabanga file photo
