Gunmen beat, rob Sudanese refugees in CAR camp

Sudanese refugees in Bembere camp in the Central African Republic (CAR) were beaten and robbed of a large sum of money and a number of sheep, by a large group of gunmen on Monday. About 40 gunmen, dressed in military uniforms and on motorcycles, have been near the camp since Friday, while threatening the refugees, the camp head reported to Radio Dabanga. “Finally, today, they attacked the camp and stole CFA 1,006,240 ($1,916) from the residents,” Rahman Ismail said. The gunmen also stole 52 sheep. Ismail said they had reported the incident to the UN and other organisations working inside the camp. He stressed that they have no relations to the conflict in the CAR, and renewed his appeal to the authorities transfer the refugees to a safe country.
