‘Government responsible for militia abuses in Darfur and North Kordofan’: opposition

The opposition Popular Congress Party (PCP), led by Dr Hassan El Turabi, has demanded from the Sudanese government to immediately dissolve its “Janjaweed militias”. At a press conference in Khartoum on Monday, PCP communications officer, El Amin Abdel Razig, accused influential figures in the government of organising the militias’ training. He said that the Government of Sudan carries the responsibility for the killing of innocent citizens in Darfur and North Kordofan. The officer referred specifically to the repeated militia attacks on citizens in North Kordofan’s capital, El Obeid, and the surrounding areas. Abdel Razig revealed that “5,500 Janjaweed forces were trained and organised in a special camp in Khartoum”. The training was funded and supervised by “influential leaders in the country”. He warned of “copying the experience of Darfur in North Kordofan”.
