Gold miner killed, robbed in Kutum, North Darfur

Militiamen killed a gold miner in Kutum locality in North Darfur on Tuesday morning.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga, the brother of the victim reported that a group of militiamen on motorcycles attacked 27-year-old Omar Yagoub Sharafeldin in the gold-mining area of Abdelshakour in the northern part of Kutum.
“They shot my brother dead and then robbed him of his personal belongings and his tools. The other miners fled.”
The source added that the people in the area are “living in fear and terror because of the continuing attacks, kidnaps, and rapes”.
On Tuesday the Darfur Special Crimes Court in El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, convicted three robbers to ten years’ imprisonment.
