A 16-year-old girl was raped near Fanga in East Jebel Marra on Tuesday.

The sister of the victim reported the incident to Radio Dabanga. Two members of the Rapid Support Forces attacked the girl west of Fanga when she went out to fetch water.

The girl has been brought back to the village for treatment with traditional medicines.

The Jebel Marra massif lies at the centre of the Darfur region, bordering the state divisions of Central, South and North Darfur. It is the only place in Darfur where armed opposition maintains prolonged control over territory and the only area in Darfur to which humanitarian organisations had no access between 2011 and 2015.

There is an almost complete lack of health centres in East Jebel Marra, owing to access restrictions by the Sudanese government, a doctor said in a Radio Dabanga special earlier this year.
