Gangsters arrested in Nyala, South Darfur

The South Darfur State security authorities have arrested seven notorious offenders in Nyala on Sunday. Security forces on Sunday raided the house of a gang leader in El Riyadh district in northern Nyala, a resident of South Darfur’s capital reported to Radio Dabanga. “They arrested seven members of a gang, led by someone called Ali.” “The forces also seized 50 weapons, ammunition, more than 10 motorcycles, and large quantities of stolen items including money, mobile phones, jewellery, and watches.” The seven gang members were transferred to the garrison of the 16th infantry division.The source noted that the citizens of Nyala have welcomed the new security measures. On 15 July, the South Darfur State Governor issued a number of emergency measures, in an attempt to reduce the criminality in the capital, including a prohibition of wearing masks, firing guns, and a ban on motorcycles. A special Emergency Court was established in the capital of Nyala to speedily try offenders of the new measures. The Commissioner of Nyala North stated that the authorities would focus on Nyala North, and in particular El Riyadh district, which is the stronghold of the Rapid Support Forces, and the Border Guards militias.
